Remote Work and Long Stays in Imsouane: A Guide for Digital Nomads

Dreaming of work calls in the morning and surf sessions at sunset? Our guide to remote work in Imsouane covers internet, long-stay accommodation, cost of living, daily routines and visas for digital nomads.

Imagine finishing a video call, closing your laptop and walking two minutes to paddle out on one of the longest waves in Africa. That’s the dream that brings more and more remote workers to Imsouane for weeks or even months at a time. Here is what long-stay life in the village really looks like, from internet and housing to routines and visas.

Is Imsouane good for remote work?

Yes, if you value surf, nature and calm over big-city convenience. Imsouane is a small village: there are no large coworking spaces, shopping centres or nightlife. In return you get a slow, focused rhythm, a friendly community of surfers and long-stayers, and the ocean on your doorstep.

Internet: what to expect

Most guesthouses and surf houses have Wi-Fi, but speed and reliability vary. For work, don’t rely on a single connection:

  • Get a local SIM with a large data package and use it as a backup hotspot. 4G coverage is generally decent in the village.
  • Ask your accommodation for a speed test before booking a long stay.
  • Schedule important calls for times when the connection is most stable, and keep a backup plan.

Our internet and Wi-Fi guide covers SIM cards and coverage in detail.

Where to stay for a month or more

  • Apartments and studios: best for privacy and a proper workspace.
  • Surf houses: sociable, with long-stay rates in some places.
  • Guesthouses: comfortable, with breakfast and a host who knows everything.

Always ask for a monthly rate: many owners offer discounts for longer stays, especially outside the busiest periods. Check that there’s a table and a comfortable chair, which is not a given! See where to stay in Imsouane.

Cost of living

Daily life in Imsouane can be very affordable: fresh fish, vegetables, bread and café meals are good value, and long-stay rents are usually lower than short-term rates. Imported products and Western-style restaurants cost more. Read our realistic budget guide.

A typical remote-work day

  • Morning: surf at sunrise, when the waves are cleanest.
  • Midday: breakfast and focused work hours.
  • Afternoon: calls, more work, or a second surf session depending on the tide; see our tide guide.
  • Evening: sunset over the bay, dinner with friends.

Europe’s time zones are close to Morocco’s, which makes calls with European teams easy.

Visas and length of stay

Many nationalities, including most EU citizens, UK, US and Canadian passport holders, can enter Morocco visa-free for up to 90 days. Rules depend on your nationality and can change, so always check the official requirements before travelling. Overstaying is not a good idea.

Practical tips for long-stayers

  • Bring a laptop stand, a good charger and a power bank; power cuts are rare but possible.
  • Withdraw cash on trips to bigger towns; see money in Imsouane.
  • Do big shops in Tamanar, Essaouira or Agadir for things you can’t find in the village.
  • Learn a few words of Darija or French; see what language people speak.
  • Respect local customs; long-stayers are part of village life.

Best season for a long stay

Autumn to spring offers the best surf; see our surf season guide. Autumn is especially good, with warm water, good swells and fewer crowds; read our autumn guide.

Make Imsouane your office

If you can work with a slightly slower internet connection in exchange for daily surf and ocean sunsets, Imsouane is hard to beat. Browse our accommodations, ask about long-stay rates and plan your workcation by the waves.
