The Coopérative des Pêcheurs d’Imsouane was established in 1995 and brings together around 200 members. It was created to develop traditional, small-scale maritime fishing and to improve the living and working conditions of Imsouane’s fishermen, according to its president, Houcine Boussanane.

Fishing is the heart of Imsouane — the village’s main livelihood, employing close to 600 fishermen. The cooperative is based at the fishing port, built in 1998 through Japanese–Moroccan cooperation, with its breakwater, slipway, fish-market hall and storage units.
