Imsouane is a healthy place to spend time: sea air, fresh food and plenty of exercise. But it’s also a small, remote village, so it’s worth knowing what to do if you get sick or injured. Here is our practical guide to health, pharmacies, medical care and insurance for your trip.
Medical facilities in the village itself are very limited. For anything beyond minor issues, you will need to travel to a larger town. Agadir, around 1.5–2 hours away, has the most complete choice of hospitals and private clinics in the region. Essaouira also has hospital and clinic services. Ask your accommodation where the nearest doctor or health centre is. Hosts usually know who to call.
Moroccan pharmacies are easy to spot by their green cross, and pharmacists are well trained and can advise on minor problems. Many common medicines are available without a prescription. In larger towns, a rota of on-duty pharmacies (pharmacie de garde) stays open at night and on weekends. Because the village has few services, bring a well-stocked first-aid kit with you, and stock up in town if you need more.
In a remote village, help can take time to arrive. In many cases it’s faster to arrange transport to a hospital with your host.

Good travel insurance is essential. Check that your policy:
Private clinics usually ask for payment upfront, so keep your policy number and emergency contact handy.
No special vaccinations are usually required to enter Morocco, but make sure your routine vaccinations are up to date and check your own government’s travel health advice before you go.
With a little preparation, health issues rarely spoil a trip to Imsouane. Pack a good kit, get insurance and listen to your body. Read our safety guide for more tips.
